Electric Passenger Vehicle Sales Rise 3% in May 2024 In India

As per FADA, Tata Motors continue to be the market leader with 5,083 electric passenger vehicles sold in May 2024

Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) recently released EV retail sales data for the month of May 2024 that shows slightest recovery across different vehicle segments.
Talking about the electric passenger vehicle segment, it saw an increase of 3.01 percent in May 2024 with 7,638 units compared to 7,415 units in April 2024. However, the Year-over-Year (YoY) sales witnessed a decline of 1.24% with 7,638 units last month against 7,734 unit sales in May 2023.

Indian auto manufacturer Tata Motors continued to be the market leader in electric vehicle passenger segment with 5,083 unit sales in May 2024 against 6,018 units sold in the corresponding month previous year. The company registered a 2.56 percent Month-over-Month sales growth against 4,956 unit sales in April 2024.

MG Motor India secured second spot in the list with 1,441 unit sales in May 2024 as compared to 464 units sold in the same month last year. The brand witnessed a massive sales growth of 210.56 percent on Year-on-Year basis. The MoM sales growth is 19.78 percent, as reported by FADA.

Next on the list is Mahindra with an electric passenger vehicle sales of 564 units last month against 390 units in May 2023. Mahindra registered a YoY sales growth of 44.62 percent and a MoM sales decline of 10.33 percent.

BYD India entered the Indian PV market in the year 2021. The brand introduced its BYD Atto 3 electric SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). BYD registered a MoM growth of 18.12 percent with 163 unit sales against 146 units sold in May 2023. Even the YOY growth stood at 11.64 percent.

Hyundai Motor India got the fifth spot with 96 unit sales in May 2024 compared to 171 units sold in the corresponding period previous year. However, the company witnessed a Month-over-Month sales growth of 12.94 percent against 85 units sold in April 2024.

Chennai-based electric PV manufacturer PCA Automobiles reported a sales of 86 units last month against 324 unit sales in May 2023, registering a YOY decline of 73.46 percent. BMW India witnessed a YoY sales growth of 33.33 percent with 72 units in May 2024 as compared to 54 percent unit sales in April 2024.

Mercedes-Benz AG reported an EV sales of 57 units last month against 19 units in May 2023. Volvo, Kia and Audi registered an electric passenger vehicle sales of 35, 21 and 6 units in May 2024, respectively.
