Tata Punch EV & Nexon EV Score 5 Stars In Bharat NCAP Tests

The Tata Punch EV has become the highest-rated passenger vehicle by Bharat NCAP yet as it secures impressive marks in both adult and child occupant tests

Following the Safari and Harrier, Bharat NCAP has now crash-tested the Nexon EV and the Punch EV which was launched earlier this year in India. Conducted in April 2024, the tests showed the Punch EV enduring 31.46 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 points out of an available 49 points for child occupant protection.

The electric micro SUV scored 14.26/16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.6/16 in the side movable deformable barrier test while 23.95/24 in the dynamic tests, a 12/12 in the child seat restraint and 9/13 in vehicle assessment were also secured. The Punch EV is the first model underpinned by the Acti.ev platform.

The same architecture will give rise to the Curvv EV and Harrier EV this FY. As standard, the five-seater comes with six airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all seats and more. Priced between Rs. 10.99 lakh and Rs. 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Punch EV is available with two battery choices.

The claimed driving range on a single charge goes up to 421 km in the MIDC cycle and it can be bought with the option of a 7.2 kW DC fast charger too. Just as its smaller sibling, the Tata Nexon EV has also been given the full five marks in the Bharat NCAP crash test assessments. It is sold with a host of standard safety features as well.

They are six airbags, electronic stability program, traction control, seatbelt pre-tensioners, hydraulic brake fading compensation, after-impact braking, panic brake alert, rollover mitigation, secondary collision mitigation, seatbelt reminder, brake disc wiping, etc. The Nexon EV has a claimed driving range of up to 465 km on a full charge.

In the adult occupant protection test, the TATA Nexon EV scored 29.86 out of 32 points and 44.95 out of 49 maximum points in the child occupant protection tests. Adult Occupant Protection scores are rated as follows – The frontal offset deformable barrier test has resulted in 14.26 points out of 16 while 15.60 out of 16 points were scored in the side movable deformable barrier test.
