When ‘Girlfriend’ Just Isn’t Enough

Ms. Tullock is an actress and writer from Louisville, Ky., best known for her roles in “Severance” and “Perry Mason.” She has a bachelor’s degree in theater and creative writing from Millikin University.

In March 2023, the couple proposed to each other spontaneously at the restaurant Joseph Leonard in the West Village. After introducing Ms. Tullock to her neighbors earlier that day as her “girlfriend,” something about that term didn’t feel right to Ms. Ronn. “I felt that ‘girlfriend’ didn’t necessarily hold the gravity of what she meant to me,” she said. Over dinner, the couple discussed that.

“I want to call you my wife,” Ms. Ronn said.

“I want you to be my wife,” Ms. Tullock said.

On May 11, the couple were married in Ludlow House, a private social club on the Lower East Side, by Riley Berris, one of Ms. Tullock’s oldest friends. Ms. Berris was ordained by the Universal Life Church for the occasion. Ms. Ronn’s 9-year-old son, Loa, and his best friend, Ocean, were their flower children.

Guests stood around the couple as they read their vows, which they wrote side by side the night before the wedding. They both filled out a mad libs prompt: “I choose you because … and I can’t wait to …”

There was also a poem reading, some friends sang and then the couple danced to Abba with their guests as they sipped on champagne. The dress code was “whatever makes you feel gorgeous.”

Before the wedding, the couple felt a bit nervous, but they had a tender moment with Loa and Ocean before walking into the ceremony.

“There was something so sweet about having a moment of calm with two children right before,” Ms. Tullock said. “They were just like, ‘This is joy. This is fun.’ And it was a good reminder for us: That’s the whole point of this.”
