Tata Curvv EV will be the first to arrive in the first half of 2024 and it will be followed by its ICE sibling

Tata Motors has been strengthening its domestic portfolio over the twelve months or so as the CNG-spec Punch and Altroz were followed by the facelifted Nexon and Nexon EV as well as the updated Harrier and Safari. They were preceded by the Tiago EV as most of its entry-level ICE range has been electrified.

However, it has been just over two years since a brand new nameplate came into existence as the Punch micro SUV came to the fore in late 2021. Ironically the Punch will also be getting the electric treatment in early 2024 and it will be followed by the Curvv, first in its EV guise. The launch timeline is expected to be by the end of H1 2024 and thus it will mark almost three years since a new nameplate has been added to the lineup.

The Tata Curvv has been caught testing multiple times already on public roads and its IC-engined avatar is also coming – mostly in late 2024. It will compete with 4.3-metre-long midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

The Curvv EV will likely take on the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8, Maruti Suzuki eVX and its Toyota derivative, Hyundai Creta EV and sub-Rs. 20 lakh EVs from Skoda and VW. The Curvv concept was unveiled in 2022 before a more refined and near-production version was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo earlier this year.

Interestingly, the design of the Curvv concept has been sprinkled onto the Nexon and Nexon EV facelifts to bring the overall styling philosophy more streamlined amidst having individual differences. The ICE Curvv could be employed with a new 1.5L turbo GDI petrol engine kicking out 168 bhp and 280 Nm, and a CNG version cannot be ruled out either.

The zero-emission Curvv will feature a large battery pack, capable of a claimed driving range of over 500 km on a single charge and it may as well get vehicle-to-load capabilities. It will be packed with premium features including ADAS, a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a digital cluster, 360-degree camera system, and much more.
