Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun now get 6 airbags as a standard fitment across the range; over one lakh cars sold under India 2.0 project
Volkswagen India has doubled down on offering two Global NCAP five-star rated passenger cars in the domestic market as the Virtus and Taigun now get six airbags as a standard fitment. Over one lakh units of both cars have been sold locally and both these models scored five stars in adult occupant and child occupant protection tests back when they were tested.
The Taigun midsize SUV contributed to over 61 per cent of sales that led to the over one lakh tally under the India 2.0 project while the Virtus has established itself as one of the most popular midsize sedans in the country. An estimated 40 per cent of buyers own the GT variants of the Taigun and Virtus, highlighting the preference of performance-oriented trims.

Since launching its India 2.0 product portfolio, Volkswagen India has been consistently improving its offerings. The company has expanded its variant lineup and recently, introduced two new variants of the Taigun: the GT Line with a 1.0L TSI engine and the GT Plus Sport featuring a 1.5L TSI EVO engine.
To enhance accessibility, Volkswagen has built a network of 208 sales and pre-owned car touchpoints, along with 142 service centres across 155 cities. The announcement of six airbags as standard comes just over a month after Skoda making them standard on its Slavia and Kushaq which are the siblings of the Virtus and Taigun respectively as they are based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform.
All these four models are expected to get more features and technologies including ADAS in the near future while Skoda is preparing to launch a compact SUV in March 2025.
